World Book Day Looks Set to Break Record as Thousands Register
On Thursday, 4 March 2010, journalist, Victoria Brittain, and Hedy Epstein, an 85 year old holocaust survivor, will be amongst some of the celebrities taking part in the BIG Read on World Book Day. Over 2,000 children have already registered for the event, which is aiming to break the Guinness World Record for ‘The most children reading with an adult.’ Schools from as far as Reading and Croydon will be joining others from Tower Hamlets and the surrounding boroughs. They will all participate in a reading extravaganza, which seeks to highlight the importance of literacy, locally, nationally and internationally. IF Charity, one of the organisers of the event have previously broken The Guinness world record for the ‘most people running 100 meters in a 12 hour relay’, and the BIG IFtar feeding thousands of homeless people in London and nine other cities around the world. The world record attempt will involve authors, teachers and a number of celebrities reading from Roald Dahl’s classic Charlie and Chocolate Factory to the assembled children.
Former stars from the BBC hit show The Apprentice will be taking part. They include Tre Azzam, Majid Nagra and Syed Ahmed. Baroness Pola Uddin, George Galloway MP, British and Commonwealth Boxing Champion, Anthony Small, and the Leader of Tower Hamlets Council, Lutfur Rahman, will also be participating.
Both Shelina Zahra Janomohamed, author of Love in a Headscarf, and Naima B. Roberts, who has written several children’s books and runs Sisters Magazine, are amongst the many authors that will be ‘reading for the record’ on the day.
Shelina stated: “I loved reading from a very young age and it is an intrinsic part of who I am today. The Big Read event enables me to share my passion with as many children as possible, through one of my all time favourite books, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”.
Victoria Brittain said "A love of reading is the best gift anyone can give a child. It will feed the imagination with riches, and set a habit which will make education a joy throughout life."
Ruhul Tarafder, Communications Manager for IF Charity added, “We are delighted to have over 2000 children already registered and are on our way to recruit a further 1000 to break the current record, held by a school in Dubai”.
“So, if you or your school hasn’t already registered, please do so as soon as possible and lets bring this record to London.

Online petition for State Funded Muslim School in Luton.
URGENT PLEASE SIGN AND TELL OTHERS.
PLEASE FOLLOW THE LINK SIGN THE PETITION AND FORWARD THE LINK TO OTHERS
http://www.petition.fm/petitions/vamuslimschool/
Your opinion will inshallah make a difference.
Would you be able to sign this online petition to show the need for a voluntary aided muslim primary school in Luton. Basically this would mean a primary school that would receive funding from the government and would have fully qualified teachers. It does not mean that either your islam or your secular education would be compromised because of state funding. But what it does mean is that more families would be able to access Muslim schools as it would be FREE!!!!
When completing please fill in the number of children you have in the notes box.
I hope you can support this venture by signing the petition yourself and forwarding it onto as many of your Luton contacts as possible. Please also ask if you family and friends would be willing to sign it.
